About
Ian Baird BSc(hons) MSc
I started Baird CNC in 2018 to offer specilaist CNC design & development services, for new machines as well as retrofit & automation. I have a passion for CNC & servo drive systems, and enjoy the work like a hobby. T.I. Group sponsored my Electrical & Electronic Engineering Degree at Brunel, and the graduate development program saw me charterd by the age of 24 whilst working at Matrix Churchill on precision thread and ball-screw grinding machines, factory automation, production and special purpose turning applications. Whilst at Matrix, I obtained my MSc in Engineering Business Management at the Univesrity of Warwick - Warwick Business School.
The last 23 years Ian enjoyed a technical role at FANUC in UK where he had the fortune to continue working with CNC drive technology helping machine tool builders to develop a variety of machine tools and operator interfaces including ultra precision nano grinding machines, sub-micron production grinders, micron precision production mill / lathes, even low precision (but very high speed) machine tendering systems.
Today there is a plethora of technologies available but I pride myself on finding cost effective solutions based on sound engineering principles to help customers push performance boundaries without compromising reliability and developing ergonomic operator interfaces to empower machinists to realise their skills aided by CNC technology rather than hinderd by it.
